Brad Arnold Dies at 47 Brad Arnold Dies at 47

Rock singer Brad Arnold, the founder and lead vocalist of 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47, the band announced Saturday. Arnold passed away peacefully in his sleep following a courageous battle with cancer, according to a statement shared on the band’s social media accounts. His wife, Jennifer, and family were by his side.

Arnold was a founding member of 3 Doors Down and served as the band’s lead singer and original drummer. He helped shape the modern rock sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s, with the band becoming widely known for hits such as “Here Without You,” “It’s Not My Time,” and “Kryptonite.” He famously wrote “Kryptonite” at just 15 years old, a song that would later become one of the biggest rock anthems of its era.

In a heartfelt tribute, the band said Arnold’s impact extended far beyond the stage. “His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on,” the statement read. He was also remembered as a devoted husband and a person deeply loved for his kindness, humor, generosity, faith, humility, and love for family and friends.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes and condolences poured in from fellow musicians across the rock community. Singer Chris Daughtry wrote, “Sending my love to the Arnold family. Rest easy brother. You will be missed.” The band Creed shared a message saying, “Sending love to the Arnold and 3DD family.” Black Stone Cherry also paid tribute, writing, “We are so very sorry. Brad was always such a top-notch, class act to us. Even before we were anything at all, he supported us. Such a huge loss and our prayers go out to his family and band.”

Arnold revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer. In an emotional Instagram video, he told fans he was suffering from clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized to his lung. At the time, he asked fans for prayers and announced that the band’s tour would be canceled. Quoting one of his own songs, he said, “I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get and take. It’s time for me to go listen to ‘Not My Time’ a little bit.”

3 Doors Down was formed in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, by Arnold along with Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell. The band rose to national fame in 2000 when “Kryptonite” climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, launching a career that would span decades and leave a lasting mark on rock music.
