Tesla has introduced a new all-wheel-drive version of its bestselling Model Y SUV in the United States, pricing the vehicle at $41,990, according to the company’s website on Monday.

The newly launched AWD variant is positioned above the more affordable rear-wheel-drive “Standard” Model Y, giving buyers another option as Tesla continues to adjust its lineup to appeal to price-conscious consumers.

The move follows Tesla’s October rollout of lower-priced “Standard” versions of the Model Y and Model 3 sedan. Those trims were priced about $5,000 less than the previous base models and have become a central part of Tesla’s strategy for 2026. The company aims to lower entry-level prices to attract more buyers without waiting to introduce a new mass-market vehicle.

In the United States, the “Standard” trims bring Tesla’s prices closer to levels seen before federal EV incentives were eliminated, helping soften the impact of higher out-of-pocket costs for consumers. In other global markets, the roughly $5,000 price reduction is more noticeable and is intended to boost demand amid growing competition.

The broader electric vehicle market has slowed since September, when the Trump administration ended the $7,500 federal tax credit. At the same time, Tesla is facing increasing competition from both established automakers and newer EV startups worldwide.

Analysts have warned that selling a higher proportion of lower-priced vehicles could put pressure on Tesla’s profit margins unless the company can offset the impact through lower manufacturing costs or increased revenue from software and services.

Separately, CEO Elon Musk said last week that Tesla plans to end production of its Model S and Model X vehicles. The company will instead repurpose space at its California factory to focus on manufacturing humanoid robots.
